Entry level engineer that can’t find a job due to lack of experience. Should i try for an unpaid internship?
I'm an access level chemical engineer that has been looking for work since graduating last May. I have had several interviews but I never landed any of the jobs. Since late July last year I have not heard back from anyone. I'm guess the economy has something to do with that. So now what? I've applied to probably 300+ jobs since july and not had so much as a phone interview. So I'm thinking about getting an internship to try to get some experience. There are a number of ethanol plants around my city. Would trying to get an unpaid internship with one of these chemical plants be a excellent thought? I've never heard of an engineer doing this, but honestly I'm desperate to get my foot in the door. (advice from HR, engineer, or management would be most caring)

Well, being an intern is better than not doing anything. It also help you get your foot in the door. You can even get a full time job after the intern.
Even if you don’t get the full time job there, you have in your resume an internship experience. That’s better than an education with no experience.
While being an intern, you can try doing job search at the same time, so that when you get a job offer you can quit the intern.
I am an electronics engineer. I started out as a co-op and got a full time job as electronics technician, then got promoted to engineer.
