What does a job title mean if it says intern but requires a degree?

The job title says industrial engineer intern, but it requires a bachelors degree in industrial commerce. I was under the impression that internships were for small periods such as during the summer, not a full time job. Could this simply mean an access level job, or is it a typical internship?

Some internships are post-graduate, possibly intended as a bridge between undergrad and grad school or as work experience for someone who has a degree but hasn’t passed certifying exams.

Here is an article from wikipedia about internship. Note the section about the low pay.

An intern is someone who facility at a company on a temporary basis, for the purpose of quick on the job experience for the intern and for the company to evaluate the intern for possible long term employment.

It isn’t unusual for a company to require an intern to have a degree when applying for a temporary position, since industrial commerce requires considerable knowledge and expertise, they want to make sure any candidates have already demonstrated their commitment by achieving a degree within that field. Since they are newly graduated, they may benefit by acquiring on the job experience within the company while the company evaluates them for possible long-term employment.

If you are unsure as to the company’s long-term goals regarding interns, question them what their policy is.
